Here are a few valuable (albeit aged) electronics references.

Terman - Radio Engineering This one is an amazing compendium of basic circuit theory from networks to tubes to microwaves. It contains a veritable potpourri of basic reference information.Get the newest version if you can. Having said that, I have the 1945 edition, and it's still vauable for basics that don't change with the years.

GE Transistor Manual - This book is a valuable reference for basic theory and transistor circuits, including such obsolete tidbits as the tunnel diode and silicon controlled switch. The old reference circuits are easily brought up to date with modern devices.

Radiotron Designer's Handbook - This is another monster reference that covers tube circuits, transformer and inductor design, and much, much more. Try to get the newest (1953) edition if you can.

Millman and Taub - Pulse, Digital, and Switching Waveforms - 1965 If you are serious about working with low level pulsed electronics, this a vauable reference guide, with a mixture of tube and transistor basic circuits.
