Research topics?

I am competing in a science fair, and I am looking for ideas to test while making a fusor. What are some factors that can provide a lot of variation when it comes to neutrons per minute, "efficiency" (very broad term, I know, I still need to do more research to determine what kinds of things "efficiency" could cover), etc.
I just need a push in the right direction, the amount of material here is amazing. I am still digesting information from FAQs and how other people documented their experiences.
